After last night’s episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. 4×18 “No Regrets”, fans were filled with turbulent emotions on seeing a fallen character returned live and well in the Framework, while also having to say goodbye to a character who has grown on us throughout season four.
Throughout this past season of S.H.I.E.L.D., fans have been cautiously warming up to the new Director and Inhuman impostor, Jeffrey Mace – simply hesitant because he was new. After some time and explanations, he grew on us as a fantastic character who balanced the scales for the political face of S.H.I.E.L.D. that the world desperately needed.
Due to events that happened within the Framework in last night’s episode of “No Regrets”, Jeffrey Mace sacrificed his life to save the team. Hydra ordered Agent May to go in and kill The Patriot at any costs – including Hydra blowing up a detention center where they brainwash children. As the building was going down, The Patriot jumped under a beam and gave his life to saving the child trapped, along with the members who were still inside the building.
As we all know, when a team member dies in the Framework, they also die in real-life, which was also confirmed as real-world Aida views their vitals and finds Jeffrey Mace to be unresponsive.
Even outside of the show, the team showed their grief for the fallen hero.
Though this was truly one of the saddest parts for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. last night, fans got to see a return of a character that was an amazing part of the team and related to a Howling Commando, Antoine Triplett. While we all know he’s only alive in the Framework world, it’s nice to see Marvel bringing back some of the characters that were taken out of the show too soon.
Hopefully other characters like Lance Hunter and Bobbi Morse make their return in the Framework, so the team is not working by themselves.
