Job Listing Hints at Pokémon Game for Switch

A recent job listing seems to hint that a Pokémon RPG could be in development for the newly-released Nintendo Switch.

A recent IGN article says that developer Game Freak is looking for a 3D CG designer for a console title. The listing, written in Japanese, was translated by the website Siliconera and looks like it could be a mainline Pokémon game for the Nintendo Switch.

According to Siliconera’s translation, the listing says the game will be “an RPG game that is popular on a global scale,” and is “a title that just about anyone knows.” Furthermore, IGN says the hire would work on modeling “characters, monsters and items,” which sure sounds a lot like a Pokémon game. The listing also says the game will launch on console and that applicants should be familiar with the program Maya on a Wii U or PS Vita level.

The reference to the title being an RPG hints that it may be a mainline experience. After all, many of the series’ spinoffs don’t follow the RPG format of the main entries. Not to mention, rumor already has it that Game Freak is planning a version of Pokémon Sun and Moon for the Switch, currently codenamed Pokémon Stars.

By no means does the listing explicitly say that the hire will work on a mainline Pokémon game for the Nintendo Switch, but a bit of reading between the lines leads one to believe that might be the case.

After graduation, I plan to enter the gaming industry as a news writer for a gaming trade publication or a public relations specialist for a publisher. I enjoy playing many different genres of games (though I'm horrible at RTS and brawlers). I try to diversify what I play so I can take in many different ideas, cultures, game and art designs, and aspects of gaming to appreciate it better. I’m a thinker, I love to learn, and I'm here to bring you the latest news and share my opinions through the occasional editorial.
