Finn Jones Blames Trump for Negative Iron Fist Reviews, Here’s Why He’s Wrong

Marvel’s Iron Fist star Finn Jones, has begun to blame Donald Trump for the negative reviews on his Netflix original. Though Trump can be blamed for many things, giving negative reviews on a Netflix show is stretching it, especially when he’s citing “white American billionaire superhero” as the reason, and the similarities between that and Trump. Did we forget about the numerous DC and Marvel white billionaire superheros?

It’s very unfortunate that Marvel’s Iron Fist has been receiving negative reviews, as the series is leading into The Defenders as well, but blaming it on being “whitewashed” only goes against the basic comic book origin.

Finn Jones who plays Danny Rand/Iron Fist gave his own insight to why the reviews were so bad, and it’s blatantly stretching real-world affecting a comic book based television series.

“I think the world has changed a lot since we were filming that television show. I’m playing a white American billionaire superhero, at a time when the white American billionaire archetype is public enemy number one, especially in the US. We filmed the show way before Trump’s election, and I think it’s very interesting to see how that perception, now that Trump’s in power, how it makes it very difficult to root for someone coming from white privilege, when that archetype is public enemy number one. Danny is a fish out of water, and you don’t really understand where he’s coming from. But I think there’s also a level of intrigue. People need to see the full series–’Iron Fist’ doesn’t end until the last episode of ‘Defenders.’ He really goes on a journey of self-discovery, and grows into the role. It’s paced out; it’s a long journey.” – Finn Jones

Obviously Jones thought out this theory very well, but we can’t completely agree with blaming a white American billionaire on his negative response.

In the Marvel Universe we’ve seen Iron Man himself, Tony Stark, who is known for being a “genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist”. Alike in the DC Universe, we have Bruce Wayne who is the owner of Wayne Enterprises, and also a billionaire white American.

We do empathize with Jones on the fact the ratings aren’t great on Iron Fist, but blaming it entirely on the real world affecting his show isn’t something we can fully support. White American billionaire Donald Trump may be disliked by many, but people still love Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne.
