Even though the reboot of the classic Tomb Raider franchise was a success, the same may not be said for the game’s sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider.
Rise of the Tomb Raider was a fairly anticipated game and a good one at that! It had the same, if not better action scenes and better gameplay. However, sales don’t lie and the figures are saying that the game didn’t do as well as initially predicted.
The game failed to make the NPD’s top 10 list that can be seen on the Venture Beat website. Even Just Dance 2016 made the list at no. 10.
The reason for Rise of the Tomb Raider‘s failings has nothing to do with the game at all, the game was good, it should’ve made the list. It didn’t make the list because of the fact that the game was made exclusively for Xbox One, excluding other loyal fans that didn’t have the console.
So if you release a game for only one console, don’t expect to see a lot of money in return then. That and also never release a game the same day as the highly anticipated Fallout 4.
In spite of the bad sales performance, the game will be released for PC on January 29th 2016, apparently, a lot earlier than expected. Maybe Square Enix is trying to make up for screwing fans with the “exclusively for Xbox One” stunt.
Along with the PC release, the game comes with the Baba Yaga Rise of the Tomb Raider DLC, which is also scheduled to release that month. Here’s the DLC’s trailer:
Do you think it’s a smart move to release a game exclusively for one console? Nintendo has been doing it for years on their consoles, and it’s worked for them. Share your thoughts on this controversial topic below!
