Game Awards Details Announced

The Game Awards are scheduled for Thursday at 9 p.m. EST, and the crew behind the production is hard at work getting the show ready to stream. Lots of new info has released in the last few days concerning the awards show, and here’s what we’ve gathered.

Geoff Keighley is running The Game Awards once again, as he founded the program last year. He has dropped many hints, clues and names of those who will be part of the show through his Twitter account.

Kiefer Sutherland will be back for the second year in a row. Sutherland voices Snake in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which has been heralded as one of the best games of the year. He will present an award during the show like last year.

Keighley also announced that Mark Hamill of Star Wars fame will present an award as well as former basketball star Shaquille O’Neal.

Musical guests deadmau5 and CHVRCHES will provide entertainment for the evening, and a couple of other musical treats are in store as well. According to Keighley’s Twitter account, Afrojack will remix some Final Fantasy music for the show, and Dash Berlin will take on music from Blizzard’s Heroes of the Storm.

Plenty of other exciting plans are in store as well. Rise of the Tomb Raider DLC will be unveiled, new Quantum Break footage will be premiered and a Mortal Kombat announcement will be made, among other things.

Keighley produced the Video Game Awards that aired on Spike from 2003-2013. After the show ended its run, he ventured out to create a new, premiere awards show. Thus, The Game Awards were born last year.

Keighley said that because there isn’t a mainstream audience to need to please, he can seek out celebrities who have a connection to gaming, according to an article by The Hollywood Reporter.

Part of what we like to do is create these sort of unique, magical moments where the world of Hollywood sort of comes together with the gaming world and there’s a mutual respect.

Last year, the show was held in Las Vegas, and this year it will be held in Los Angeles. The show is slated for 9 p.m. on Thursday, December 3. It will stream on Verizon’s new go90 service, PSN, Xbox Live, Steam, Twitch, YouTube and other services.

My name is Matthew, and I’m an avid gamer. Video games and writing are my two passions. After graduation, I plan to enter the gaming industry as a news writer for a gaming trade publication or a public relations specialist for a publisher. I enjoy playing many different genres of games (though I’m horrible at RTS and brawlers). I try to diversify what I play so I can take in many different ideas, cultures, game and art designs, and aspects of gaming to appreciate it better. I’m a thinker, I love to learn, and I’m here to bring you the latest news and share my opinions through the occasional editorial.
